State your opposition in the Subject line: "Oppose Fluoridation," or "Vote NO on Fluoridation" so they see it even if they don't open and read your email.

In the first sentence of the email text, state that you are a resident, a voter, and want them to oppose the fluoridation proposal. Follow this up with any medical or scientific credentials if that applies.

Explain briefly and politely why you don't want fluoridation chemicals added to your drinking water. Examples include:

  • The residents of Spokane have consistently rejected fluoridation throughout history, THREE times by referendum (1969, 1984, 2000), and a fourth time by lack of community support for a referendum petition in 2004.

  • Fluoride consumption should be a choice, not a mandate.

  • You cannot control the dose once you add it to the water, because people consume different amounts. Many will be overexposed, causing side-effects like dental fluorosis, ADHD, and hypothyroidism.

  • There is no fluoride shortage. Topical fluoride is cheap and easily accessible in toothpaste, floss, and mouth wash.

  • Fluoridation is not a COVID emergency. The process to start fluoridation will take over 4 years, and won’t have any impact on the current pandemic.

  • Proponents appear to be trying to exploit the COVID pandemic to avoid public opposition and discussion of government funded studies linking fluoridation to neurotoxicity and dental fluorosis.

  • The level of evidence that fluoride is neurotoxic now far exceeds the evidence that was in place when lead was banned from gasoline.

  • A cavity can easily be filled, but damage to a child's brain is permanent.

  • Where will pregnant women and parents of bottle-fed infants get their drinking water? Infants may be at an increased risk for overexposure to fluoride if fluoridated water is used to reconstitute formula.

  • We don't want fluorosilicic acid, which is toxic waste from the phosphate fertilizer industry, in our water.
